*Will Silicone Sheets Widen Scars?*

Hello there,

Even though they may have flattening effect, I've heard some surgeons don't recommend silicon sheets as they think it will widen the scar. TRUE? ...... If not, when to start and for how long? What are the other options?

Not the case.Silicone sheets flatten scars ,actually the pressure from the sheet increases the rate at which the scar matures. With maturation of the scar  there is subsequent flattening. Some individuals form wide scars, also tension  on the wound contributes to widening of the scar.

I do not think that the sheets widen the scars. I recommend using them for three months after surgery.
