Hi Guys,

I've been searching the forums for a post about sever gyne cases but couldn't find any. I just went to the PS today and my case is severe. He gave me the choice of doing the regular gyne procedure which will just result in a small scar, but in my case will come with excessive sking. The other option is to do a procedures that he said it resembles what is done in case of breast cancer for ladies, this will avoid the excessive skin but will require a large scar accross the breasts. I've the following questions, hopefully any of u guys had a similar experience:

- Is that large scar, really that large, something that can actually be considered a deformation?

- Is there a way to make it heal better, avoiding it being there forever.

- If its that big of a scar, is the whole operation worth doing, taking into consideration the num/dead nipples.

I wonder if any one has information/pics/experience with this procedure.

Thanks everybody.

I have a moderate to severe case.

Mine is due to low testosterone, associated problems and liver problems as well (I had liver cancer at 16).

I don't know how I can help you if at all?

You might want to share experiences or photos- I don't know?

I think ALL men, but in particular those that have severe cases should see an endocrinologist.

Plastic surgeons are only specialists in removal of gynecomastia.

But they are not experts in what causes gynecomastia that is an endocrinologist.

It is massively important to have your hormones checked to ensure you do not have an underlying issue causing the gynecomastia.

Why?

A-because if left untreated the gynecomastia might comes back post sugery

and

B- because some conditions that can cause gynecomastia need diagnosis in their own right and treatment

If you tell me where you live- city and- state then I can find you contact details of endocrinologists in your area that have an interest in reproductive endoicrinology (the bit where those are interested in gynecomastia)

  • Wilma, grab the lotion, we're going to the beach!
Wow, that's a toug call.

Usually I'm a big advocate of loosing weight and being in decent shape prior to surgery, but in cases like yours where the gyne is so severe, I'd say get it done now, then loose weight and maybe go back for a revision.

I know, I know, you probably don't have the money to do that. I don't know what to tell you.

I've read other "big boys" say they can't workout effectively because of the embarrassment and shame of being seen in a gym or simply because of pain from their breasts rubbing against their clothing when mixed with sweat.

Hum. Try going into the photo section and finding guys with really bad gyne and send them a message.  See if they respond. I think they'd be the best source to answer your question.

:)

Thanks JC, This is exactly what I'm planning to do and actually I've the time for it as the opertion won't happen till at least 6 months. So that gives me some time to play around, not sure though if I will be able to avoid the nasty operation and go for a regular gyne one. Thanks againg JC.

After massive weight loss, excess skin can be a problem.  The extra skin can be around the stomach, thights, buttocks, chest, arms, and face. Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty and Body Lift Sculpture can help with the stomach and extending around the back.

Scars from skin reduction gynecomastia can be quite extensive and not look good.  Patients with that much loose skin tell me that their goal is more limited, they just want to look good in a tight shirt and do not care about the scars.  Not liking those scars I evolved my Internal Mastopexy Male Breast Lift that can resuspend tissues.  This technique has its limitations as excess skin is not removed and I reserve it for intermediate problems.

Such issues are best discussed during a consultation after an evaluation.

Hope this helps,

I like Dr. B's response.

All surgery leaves something in the way of scars.

What is most important is that you inform yourself so that you have realistic expectations before surgery.  The more realistic your expectations, the more likely you are to be happy with the result.
