I recently found out that the reason for my gynecomastia is probably due to the fact I have low testosterone....they said it is 4.3 and I'm not too sure what kind of scale that is(I'm in canada).  Anyways,  the doctor prescribed me some testosterone injection and he said I have to take it every 2 weeks for the rest of my life!  Does anyone have any similar stories?  If so, did the injection actually work because I have a nice rack that I would like to get rid of?  I'm very new at this, it kinda sprung up on me in the past couple years, and I'm 26.  Thanks

If the gyne just sprung up on you recently, then it is definitly from the low testosterone. Taking the innjections will probably fix the problem. There are a few people on here with similar conditions, although I am not one of them. I have heard it can even resolve itself in a matter of weeks! But six months is the actual timeframe they'll give you.

The injection will make your testosterone levels go up but I'm not sure if it'll make your gyne go away.Mine is caused by hypogonadism.I've been on the injections since I was 14.I am now 48.Likewise I take 2 injections per month.I give them to myself.

get a second opinion from an endocrinologist.  remember that just test alone can be aromatizable into more estrogen, which is not what you want.
* a man is more than a body will ever tell
* if it screws up your life the same, is there really any such thing as "mild" gyne?

more  test will not make your problem of fatty tissue on your chest go away, it will help other problems in your life (low energy, fatigue, trouble gaining weight). with increased test goes an increased level of estrogen also, there is always a special balance between the 2. many body builders who take juice often get gyno, you are taking juice, although on a much lower level it can have the same sides. get your bloods checked for estrogen and test levels before and after starting shots

Hi basic,

It is usual for endocrinologists to diagnose the form of hypogonadism prior to prescribing treatment as mentioned by gyno51, this is quite important as it can affect the form of treatment that you can work for you.

Hopefully you saw an endocrinologist and not just a physician and they made this diagnosis, but just didn't inform you?

It would be useful to find out if your doctor did this.

If he did not do this, then I think it would be an idea to get a referal to an endocrinologist for better guidance.  If you tell me where you are in Canada, I might be able to help in locating an endocrinologist who specialises in these matters.

Regarding your testosterone level, if 4.3 is in the European serum testosterone reference range of nmol/l then that is a very low figure indeed.  If you could clarify with any additional details I could help more.

Do you know the name of the product you are being prescribed?  It would be very helpful to know, as differing forms of treatment convert differently to estradiol.

e.g

Sustanon for instance results in higher estradiol levels than Nebido.

if you already have gynecomastia this is very important, as you do not wish to exacerbate the problem.

In short the form of therapy you are on absolutely can have an impact on your gynecomastia, either positively and negatively.

If you are on one of the older indictables then you will almost certainly wish to switch to a form a therapy that converts less to estradiol otherwise the gynecomastia could get worse.

Another issue for you will be;

Is the dosage correct for you?

For this you need to be tested on treatment again preferably by an endocrinologist and detail your symptoms or the lack of them.  Very often people are on too low a dose and continue to muddle through life with unnecessary ills that could be easily avoided with correct treatment.

P.S

You are not alone I have hypogonadism and so do many others.  Below is a support group that you can join and get help from and a resource site for sufferers below that.
