where can i get a hormonal check up? do i just google and see around in the area? how wud i know the doctor is good....is there any website where i can see the authenticity of the doctor who i visit for a hormonal check up??

what abt insurance. does insurance cover visit to an endocrinologist?

If you tell me what city and state you live in I can give you a list of endocrinologists who specialize in reproductive endocrinology, their qualifications and contact details.

You could then ring around ask about insurance details, ask about what board they qualified with etc and make an appointment with one that you feel most comfortable with.

Just need city and state.

I am thousands of miles away in the UK so you will have to forgive my ignorance on this one.  VA is Virgina right?

I thought Richmond was Virginia?

I couldn't find any endocrinologists with an interest in reproductive endocrinology in mclean specifically, but I have found these in the state.  Well if I have located the correct state I have, you'll have to let me know if I have done that.

It is important that the endocrinologists I have picked out have a stated area of interest as reproductive endocrinology, as this is the area that best covers gynecomastia.

The addresses, contact numbers and qualifications are listed, you will have to ask the pertinent questions regarding board qualification and insurance details etc (not really my bag being in the UK).  

I hope that helps.....if I have got the state wrong just run then let me know and I'll rectify the problem by getting an alternative list.

That is some question you have given me.

Endocrinologists tend to specialize in given fields whether they say so or not, or at least tend to have far more experience with given fields.

Obviously you want the most informed, knowledgeable doctor to treat you irrespective of the condition.

With that in mind I would try to pick an endocrinologist who has an expressed interest in the area of reproductive endocrinology if I was having my hormones tested.

Now does that mean that every endocrinologist who labels themselves as having an interest in reproductive endocrinology is good?

Certainly not.  

Equally does this mean that endocrinologists who do not express an interest in reproductive endocrinology are useless in this area?

Again certainly not.

When you select a surgeon you try to obtain the best that you can afford in terms of knowledge, experience etc.

It is the same here.

The details of the endocrinologists I have obtained for you do have an expressed interest in reproductive endocrinology, I would not have listed any that didn't have that, as it is the standard I would apply if I was looking for an endocrinologist myself.
So they all appear to be well qualified so theoretically they should all be very good.

But if you are looking to book a consultation, you need to ask the pertinent questions that ensure/allow you to have the confidence in the individual you choose as your clinician.

So you could phone them all up and enquire about their qualifications and details of the board they qualified with.  You could ask them what their individual qualifications mean in layman’s terms; ask about their experience in this area etc.  

If you speak to the actual endocrinologist you can use this as an exercise to see whether or not you have a rapport with them as an individual (something that is very important).  If you are asking these questions of a secretary you could ask if you have a brief chat with the endocrinologist as you are nervous about a prospective consultation.

Ultimately you should choose the clinician you are most comfortable with who has your trust.

I vouch for none of the endocrinologists whose details I have provided as I do not have personal experience with any of them (though I have obtained their details from a very trustworthy source).

i called a reproductive endo specialist today. they said tehy dont do regular hormonal check ups. tehy specialize in infertility.. i am so confused now.

I do not know anything about the insurance issues in the US being from the UK.  I would have thought that you could simply ask the endocrinologist concerned about such matters, but whether that is correct or not I couldn’t say.  In terms of making an appointment al you would have to do is book the appointment and give the endocrinologist details of your general physician so that he/she can be kept informed of how things progress.

Odd.  Obviously this endocrinologist only deals with issues of fertility FSH, sperm counts etc.  Perhaps he works within a fertility clinic.  

I would simply say phone another endocrinologist from the list.
