i am 15 yrs old and ive got puffy nipples. I worked out a few months ago and started losing weight and my nips started to get smaller. i stopped working out and back to where i was. i am on a diet now and this morning when i woke up they reduced in size about 1/4 inch. after i ate breakfast they grew back. i am quite a bit overweight but not obese and am now growing facial hair. could this just be a puberty thing and just be fat deposits? i have pretty big man boobs for my size so could this be the problem

Do I Have It? is a common question posted here.

Any male mammal typically has some gland in his breast.  It is a function of the definition of being a mammal.  For almost all, the amount of gland is very small.  Gynecomastia comes in different degrees: from a tiny puffy nipple to a massive breasts. It does not take much to interfere with the cut look of a bodybuilder or athlete.

Check out this Gynecomastia Gallery where you can view before and after pictures of gynecomastia and the changes with surgery. This is in a new slide show format.  You can slow down, speed up, and activate a navigation panel. Each image links to pages of further details about that patient, his problem, and his surgery.

Take your time to view the various degrees of male breast enlargement. There are additional Gynecomastia Gallery Links on that page.

"Puffy Nipples" is a common public term for gynecomastia.

The problem is the the term puffy nipples is a phrase that mean so many different things to so many different people.  Words just do not convey the actual problem very well - images do a little better, but still are not the same as an actual in office evaluation with your doctor.  This Gynecomastia Picture Gallery of Puffy Nipples begins to show some of the various problems patients have called "puffy."

Putting up pictures (using standard views before and after surgery) is one way to discuss what the problem was before surgery and what has happened.   Options depend on what is really going on.

Let us try to look what I mean by the problem of the words only descriptions.  "Large nips", "puffy nipples," "puffed nipples,"  and "puffy nips" are a common terms many give to a problem that extends to the region about the areola.   The nipple is actually the central raised structure inside the pigmented areola.

"Puffed nipples" can be a problem for some that involves long nipples above the areola where nipple reduction alone helps.

"Puffy Nipps" can be a problem behind the areola that can take many forms.  The deformity is usually a varying combination of fat and gland.  The gland can be firm or soft, spread through fat, or be a condensed mass.  There is a thin muscle under the areola skin that can flatten tissue when stimulated. Unfortunately it is impractical to keep stimulating these muscles.

In many of these patients with "puffy nipples," there was no firm tissue under the areola, just fat and soft gland.  Here is one example of puffy nipples in a muscular male.  Here is another example of   puffed nipples.  Here is another patient with puffy nipple gynecomastia.

"Puffy Nipples" can also be a combination of gynecomastia and big nipples.

I prefer my Dynamic Technique that adapts to the problem found during surgery to minimize such issues as residual deformity after surgery.

Hope this helps,

I doubt they "grow back" after breakfast.  What practically happened, is you were cold in the morning, started moving around and your nipples returned to their normal form.  You were also more than likely dehydrated when you woke up, and drank with your breakfast.

Dr. Bermant:
I have nipples that stick far out. I don't have wide nipples and my man boobs are not saggy like the pictures you show. Maybe it is just fat. I pray to God that i don't have gynecomastia b/c I am getting ready to apply for the Naval Academy in the next year or so and will end up being a Marine officer. I can't really afford surgery b/c my dad is currently unemployed and I live in Indiana and do not have these kind of surgeons in my area. I could talk to my parents if I had the money to perform the operation and found a nearby place to do it. If I could afford a plane ticket also then I would be able to get the surgery done. I always have to hide my nipples in the locker room when I am changing for track, basketball, and soccer. If you could help me that would be great. I wish I could run for track with my shirt off like I used to be able to.

The only problem is telling my parents. I could easily tell my mom, but my dad I would feel uncomfortable telling. He would probably just say "no" and tell me to not worry about it. There has to be some way to convince him. If i got a temporary job maybe I could pay for it by myself. Any suggestions?

  • make the most of what you have got
I told my parents in jan 07, I'm on my way to surgery, and through all these months I have been thinking only one thing, I should have told before. probably 3 years back. Believe in me it is the second best you can do to your gynecomastia, first being Surgery ;)

DONT WAIT, JUST DO IT

note: I dont know how much its costs at your place but in USA i guess its in range of  $2000  - $3000, i guess any temp work is not going to pay that much very soon.

edited: Hey u are 15 !! dont go for surgery man, wait for 3 more years, you could be the lucky majority (gosh i didnt know what is computer when i was 15  ;D )
Ciao
