Hi, I'm 15, 5'7'', 190 lbs, and I have gyno. I have been inside my house for 6 months now, afraid to face society because of the way I look.

Along with gyno, I have stooped shoulders. Does anyone have information on slopped shoulders by the way? I can't seem to find much on google.

People have always made fun of the way I look. In specific around 4th grade my mom started noticing my slouch and the way I walk. I hvae a strange wobble type of walk and in past years have attempted normalzing myself by putting my shoulders up in a  robot like  position, making my movement seem very artificial.

Another feature that I hate about myself is my unusually large ass. The combination of a protuding ass, slouching shoulders, and large breasts is really disturbing to me. I have managed to remain sane however. I want to lose weight, but I can't bring myself to go out and run. I am afraid of seeing people, and I';m afraid of society.

Any ideas of what I can do?

Hi xspiritx,

Large breasts if glandular and a large behind can sometimes be due to female type fat storage patterns associated with a hormone problem.

Now of course it may be just normal excess weight, however given the gynecomastia it is best to get checked out anyway.

Endocrinologists are hormone experts unlike a regular doctors or plastic surgeons (the latter are only experts in gynecomastia removal) and gynecomastia is caused by either a temporary or permanent hormone problem.

Therefore it makes sense to see an endocrinologist who can check your hormones with pathology.

An endocrinologist can find out if anything is causing your gynecomastia and treat it if neccessary and then refer you to a plastic surgeon.

This is the best course of action, as some people who go straight for surgery without having their hormones checked have their gynecomastia removed but it re-develops due to underlying problems.

By going to an endocrinologist first you can ensure that should you have an operation this would not happen.

I think he also need some help with the social issues that gynecomastia has induced.  It is very difficult to face the world with gynecomastia as all sufferers know, some are more affected than others in this way.

But you need to be able to talk with people about this (you can at least do that here) and find ways/methods that can help you to cope, whether this is certain clothing or like an underarmour vest or the reassurance of friends etc.

Some people find that they can confide in one person who they trust, if not your endocrinologist may be able to refer you to a psychologist who can help, again this is only for some people; you need to try and find something that works for you.

May of us have suffered the same way here- you are not alone.

If you tell me where you live as in city and state I will try and get contact details for endocrinologists that will be able to help.

The condition you describe is sometimes called Gynecoid Obesity.

I will second Hypo's letter, He knows more about hormones than anyone else here.

An Endocrinologist and a Psychologist.  Do not delay!

Most important is that you now know you are not alone, we are all in the same boat.

Good Luck

Hi xSpiritx,

All of these are recommended by the (AACE) American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and list reproductive endocrinology as an interest (reproductive endocrinology covers gynecomastia).

Give one of them a call and ask the questions that you feel are pertinent.  Maybe even phone a few of them up and make an appointment with one that you feel most comfortable with.

Don’t forget to pass the details of appointments on to your general physician.

alright hypo, way to pull through!

By the way xSpiritx, you said you didn't want to go out and run because you were afraid people would laugh. There are alternative ways to losing weight. Try dieting and exercising in your home. Don't make exuses with yourself not to work! You can do it if you put your mind to it. (wow that sounded corny)

My guess is that if you go out and exercise a few times, you will get over your fear of people seeing you. But if that does not prove to be the case, do as one other poster said--exercise and diet in your house. Maybe have your parents buy you a treadmill or an exercise bike.

Is it possible to lose Gynecoid Obesity if I lose weight?

  • FORGEDDABOUDIT!
wait till it gets dark, then go for a run.
start off lightly then build up.

I run in pitch black darkness, and it feels really liberating.

sometimes at 1 or 2 in the morning if I am feeling like I have a sudden energy burst I'll just go for like a 5k (3mile or so) run.

sometimes I end up going so far that I cross over from suburbia into rural/national parkland.
... and the saga continues

Thanks for all your help.

So I've begun to start excersising again. I run at around 4am-5am.

Hopefully the majority of my problems will be solved through large amounts of weight loss.

Again, thank you.

I applaud your renewed activity and work on fitness,  but that is only one issue.  The fat distribution pattern you described and stoop shoulders (lack of upper body strength) point to a possible hormonal problem which really needs to be investigated.  Hopefully you are still planning to see the Endocrinologist.
