Its now been 3.5 years since having surgery to get rid of my puffy nips.  Although my chest is no longer an inner daemon, and I've tried to forget I ever had them, every now and then I realize how much better my life has been since the surgery.

I also remember that the only reason I had the information and confidence to go through with the surgery was this board.  So, first of all, thank you to all the regulars around here!  Now, the least I can do is give back by sharing my success story, that I hope will help some of you still struggling.

I first developed puffy nipples when I was 14, as I went into high school.  I didn't care much until I realized others were noticing, and then I became very self conscious.  I started always wearing undershirts+collared shirts, stopped playing team sports (so I wouldn't have to take off my shirt in the locker room), learned to hate wind, slouched, and definitely didn't go swimming.

My Mom noticed as well, and she told me my Dad had it and it went away when he was 21.  We went to a specialist, and he said it would go away eventually.  I had the option of taking HGH to speed things up, but  I declined.

After years without beaches, locker rooms, or a girlfriend, my 21st birthday rolled around and my nips were still as puffy as ever.  I couldn't wait any longer so I started researching my options on the net (essentially just this board).  It took me months to accept that the only way they would go away was through surgery.  Eventually I built up the courage to tell my parents, and they were a huge support.  I had never talked to anyone about it since I was 14, so it was quite difficult to begin the conversation.

I had surgery with Dr. Fielding in Toronto (excision only, I'm skinny, and my nips stuck out 1.3 inch).  It was pretty easy, and after a couple days of rest, I was back at university.  I had to wear the pads for 2 weeks, and would definitely recommend doing the surgery when the weather is cold enough to wear a thick sweatshirt/jacket.  When I went back to get them off, I was pretty shocked at the scarring, but was more excited to see a flat chest!

However, it seemed like the next day they were puffier and as the weeks went by they were hardly better than before the surgery.  I was concerned, but hoped it was just the swelling and it would go away.  After a few months, I was still disappointed enough to make a follow appointment to discuss a revision.  Dr. Fielding said he thought the result was good, and he could do a revision, but to wait 6 months and see if I still wanted it.

I'm happy to say I never had to go back.  It took a couple years for all the scar tissue to go away.  Although the results aren't perfect (one is slightly puffy, the other is almost inverted), I now have a huge weight off my chest (pun intended ;).  I love t-shirts, love the wind, joined a gym, and most importantly, hold my head higher.  I also had much more confidence with girls, and it wasn't long before I had my first and current girlfriend (over 3 years now!).  I was pretty nervous taking my shirt off the first time in front of her but she said she couldn't even see anything.  In turn, she boosted my confidence even higher.  I've done some traveling and have now been to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.. and boy does it feel great to lay in the sun without a shirt!

Having the surgery is easily one of the best decisions I've made in my life.  I feel so much freer, and it has improved every aspect of my life.

To those of you wondering if you should have the surgery, I say, DO IT!  If it isn't going to go away after puberty, and a doctor thinks he can fix it most of the way, it will change your life.
