Surgery... help!

I live in the UK and going to see a breast consultant next month to discuss surgery.  I'm seeing him privately but can't afford the operation so will try on the NHS.  As it's really causing psychological damage my GP said I could go on the waiting list.  Has any one had it done on the NHS and does anyone know how long the waiting list would be??

Also, my other question was, once the operation is done I'm told there is a bra-type thing I have to wear.  I work in an office and wear work-shirts... is it going to be visible under this?? How do I hide it??
