Why vaseline after surgery/showering?

This is question specifically for the doctors, I'm curious, why is the vaseline often recommended after a few days of surgery/showering? Does it help the effect of the loose-skin after excision/lipo that tends to catch on compression garments? Any other benefits?

I have never recommended vaseline for my patient's after surgery care.  Such lubrication can make a mess of After Gynecomastia Surgery Dressings and Male Chest Compression Garments.  Such issues are best discussed with your own doctor.

I do not recommend vaseline on the skin of post-operative gynecomastia patients (don't know any other doctor, either).  I do, however, recommend a small amount of anti-septic ointment on the wounds themselves -- and then cover them with a bandaid.
