secret surgery

I'm interested in getting the surgery done (probably in a year or two when I have some money) but I wish it, like some others, to be a complete secret. I want no family, friends, etc. to know about it. It seems like some surgeons require that someone be present to drive the patient away afterward, though.

For those of you who have done the surgery in secret, how did you go about it?

they may not let you drive away from the hospital but you can take a cab home or to a local hotel.

For safetly many plastic surgeons require the patient to be with someone during the  initial time after surgery.  That person can be family, friends, or a nurse.  For our patients we have nursing services that will take you back to your hotel or you can have the operation done in a local hospital and use the ambulatory surgery stay package.

How old are you though? If your in your mid teens like 17 and under a parent should be handling those expenses even if its your money.

As for hiding it...just say you come from a friends and you are feeling very woozy and sick and just lay in bed or something.

I come from a family where all the men have gynecomastia and the girls are all large breasted.

Yet, when I was young, I thought I was the only person to have it.

You too could come from a family where it is common but simply not talked about.   Meaning that if you show up flat chested,  someone may question who your real father is.  
 
The emotional suffering that goes with Gynecomastia is self perpetuating and founded in ignorance.  It is best fought with information.   But you'll have to talk to someone to get any of that!

I'm going to keep my surgery a secret as well.  I have a girlfriend and a two and a half year old son at home.  The reason why I mention my son because I know I can't lift anything after surgery and my boy always wants to be picked up.  

My surgery is on a Wednesday (July 13th) and the night before, I'm going to tell my girlfriend I dropped some weight on my chest at the gym and it hurts really bad.  Keep in mind, I've already booked the 13th, 14th and 15th off from work.  I will go and get my surgery completed (hopefully in the morning) and I'll put my compression vest on after the surgery.  I will then place a timely phone call to her at work and tell her I was in so much pain that I went to the hospital.  They gave me a compression vest to help me heal and prescribed some pain killers for the pain.  

You're right about having a friend or family member picking you up.  I was having trouble with this one.  I will call a good buddy of mine to come and get me.  I will just tell him the same story and he'll buy it.  This is just the big picture and big lie.  The one area you have to really concern yourself with is the fine details.  For instance,  I've already asked Bambu (he already had surgery with the same dr. I'm using) if any mail from the doctor or hospital was mailed to his home after surgery.  I've already booked 3 days off from work.  What kind of questions will my girlfriend ask?  I've gone through different scenarios in my mind.   We have a slow couple of weeks in July at home (no weddings or bbq's booked) so I can take that time to heal.  

Actually, I like the fact that I'm keeping this a secret.  I don't want anyone knowing about this at all.  Hope this helps.

I am single, though.  I just paid an extra 250 and spent the night in the hospital, then drove home the next day by myself.

Geeze for 250 bones, you could have hired an 'Escort' to pick you up and gotten a hotel room too. Dang what a way to kick-off your new found freedom.

I highly doubt that St. Joseph's staff will call your home but someone from Fielding's office may. Not that they called me at home, they didn't. But you never know tho  ....

If you are still planning on not telling the GF, make sure that you tell Doc Fielding and/or Leslie ( Fielding's secretary ) not to phone you at home. If you have a cell# give them that to contact you with if need be. Just try'n to cover all the bases for you there Dude....
