What to do while suffering in a world of Chronic Intractable pain.

Hello All,

I'm new to the group and i found out I have Gynecomastia. last week . I have these painful lumps on my chest and I thought I had men's breast cancer, i mean they really hurt just to touch them. i had a mammogram and ultra sound done and no cancer but they told me i have Gynecomastia. Boy what a blow to the self esteem. Like I don't have enough problems.
I'm a chronic pain sufferer. i have a degenerative disc disease cervical with severe chronic intractable pain. I'm 54 when i was 23 i was in a roll over car accident, when the roof of my car collapsed it compressed all the disc in my neck, I was very lucky not to have broken my neck. Over the years it developed in to a degenerative disc disease and the pain never ends .           I finally lost my job, my fiancée, my car, basically i lost everything that meant something to me, even my friends stopped talking to me.
I did get on social security disability and found a good Pain Specialist. For all of you that don't know what it is like to suffer every day in chronic pain ,its all so consuming. It changes your life , and you have to do things when the pain lets up.
My doctor has my pain down to a level 4 on a scale from 1 thru 10.
Now I Advocate for others that suffer from Chronic Intractable pain, I try to match them up with a Pain Specialist near them so they don't have to suffer every day of their lives. The past 22 years have been bad but i give of myself to help others.
This Gynecomastia is just another hurdle i will get past.

So after the mammogram and ultrasound showed gynecomastia, what is your doctor telling you to do now?  What are his recommendations?  Has your doctor looked into WHY you have gynecomastia at 54 years of age?  Has he ordered any blood tests to check your hormone levels? 

You say the tests revealed that you have gynecomastia.  Do you have noticeable swelling of the breast tissue?  Have they been getting noticeably bigger over the years....before the pain started? 

You say you have painful lumps on your chest.  Can you describe the pain and the location?  Is the pain sharp or dull, and is it only in your breasts or is it in your armpits, too?  Is the pain only occasional or all the time?  How long does your doctor think this will last and what does he attribute the gynecomastia to?

Years ago a friend of mine said he knew he was going straight to heaven because he had already been through hell. I think you can appreciate his logic.

Gynecomastia in puberty is not unusual, but in an adult it usually has an identifiable cause. A good place to start would be to look at any and all medications you have been taking. You can look up the drugs and their side effects easily on line. Some will list Gynecomastia by name but many will simply refer to breast tenderness or swelling.
