I first found Dr. Lou Bucky by using the Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. website, which ranks doctors in the U.S.. Castle Connolly ranks Dr. Bucky as one of the top doctors in America. He attended Harvard Medical School and did his residencies at Mass General. His specialties are Cosmetic Surgery-Breast, Liposuction & Body Contouring, Breast Reconstruction, Botox Therapy. Naturally, I thought Dr. Bucky was the right doctor to help me get rid of the uncomfortable and unsightly glands under my nipples.

I underwent a bilateral gynecomastia excision surgery with Dr. Lou Bucky on June 4th, 2010 at his practice in Philadelphia, PA. Before the surgery, he took little time (one appointment that lasted maybe 10 minutes and around 5 minutes before the surgery) to find out what my concerns where, what I wanted to achieve with the surgery, and to explain what exactly he was going to do. I assumed that he simply had tons of experience doing surgeries like mine and was an expert on the matter. After all, he is a Harvard grad, right? Boy was I wrong…

Dr. Bucky left about half of the gland that he was supposed to extract from under my right nipple in its place. When I voiced my concern regarding the lump two weeks after the surgery, he said that it was normal and that it would subside. He was wrong. Six months after the surgery the lump under my right nipple was still there and the right side of my chest looked and felt as if I still had gynecomastia, albeit a milder case than what I had before the surgery. Finally, I decided to undergo another procedure with Dr. Ma Yongguang at Beijing United Family Hospital in Beijing, China, this time with great results.

What was even more shocking to me than Dr. Bucky’s poor performance in the surgery itself was his apparent lack of interest in one of his patients. Before the surgery he took little time to understand my condition and after the surgery he invested even less time and effort to realize what was going on with my case. I emailed him 4 times and called his office three times over a period of three months before I got even a single response from him personally. His secretary responded once only saying that she would pass my message along to Dr. Bucky. When Dr. Bucky’s response finally arrived, he finally told me to… wait some more. By that time it had become obvious to me that the problem wasn’t going to solve itself and that Dr. Bucky didn’t seem to care enough so I decided to find someone else. Not only did I have to pay for a second surgery but ended up with more scar tissue than I would like. From what I understand, the excision procedure that I underwent was not a complicated one, but Dr. Bucky just didn’t have the sort of experience necessary to execute it properly. Dealing with Dr. Bucky was a frustrating and ultimately unsuccessful affair. By writing this I hope that I will save someone the trouble of dealing with this doctor.
