After a consultation Dr. Andre Dupuy suggested I have liposucction instead of an operation for my gynecomastia.  Does anyone have information on this doctor or the procedure he suggested.  There is as much excess under my arms as under my breasts.  He is charging $3,000 for the procedure which I find rather expensive.  Since have Quebec health insurance they will NOT cover any of the cost.

Never settle with the lipo-only procedure (based on my experience, I don't know how your chest looks like since you haven't posted any pictures).

I did mine a year ago, also in Montreal with Dr. Arie Benchetrit, and it's a complete disaster -- in a way where I see no difference than before and feel like I wasted my money and time. The total cost of my lipo surgery was 4600$.

All in all, I highly suggest you do things right and go with a well known surgeon -- doesn't have to be from your town. I do not know Dr. Dupuy, but make sure to research a specialist in gynecomastia procedures as I know for a fact there are no competent surgeons for that in Montreal.

Remember that the goal is to get things done properly on the first try and not having to deal later with revision surgeries etc.

If you have any other questions, do not hesitate!

Hey Travelbum,

Raboze is right.  Liposuction alone usually isn't enough; you need tissue excision as well.  I just did my procedure last week in Toronto with Dr. Fielding.  I'm not from Toronto, but I flew there because of his stellar reputation.  There are several great surgeons in Canada, but make sure you do your research.

I paid $3300 for surgery (after all fees and taxes).  I had 2 large pieces of tissue removed as well as 450cc of fat under the chest and under the armpits.  I'm recovering well back at home now.  Good luck!

Doctor Dupuy seems to specialize in doing liposuction only. I could not find a website for him and I could not find any certification. That does not mean that he lacks a website or that he lacks certification, just that I could not find those things. It could be that those things are posted in French, which I cannot read.

Nevertheless, Having tried to find his certification and failed; Having tried to find his website and failed; I would simply look elsewhere.

Only an old man's opinion, of Course.

Hi,

I haven't gotten around to taking pics.  I'm past 2 weeks post-op now, and everything looks great!  I can see a huge difference!  I now have a flat chest and I can barely see any exterior scarring.  My nipples are now smaller and darker, even in hot weather!  I'm happy with my results so now I just need to be patient and let things heal.  I do have some scar tissues underneath the skin, but those will go away within a year.  This procedure made a huge boost for my confidence...trust me, get it done!  Anyways, make sure you choose your surgeon properly.  If you have questions, let me know.  Good luck!
