Hi,

Well I finally have an answer to my problem I think. I went for a consultation with Dr M. Haugrud here in calgary. (who was very nice, and seemed to know what he was talking about as he specializes in breast re-construction) And informed me there is no cost, as he bills everything to Alberta Health (thank god for privatized health care)

He will be doing gland removal.. ( I have a mild-mod case) with lipo I assume. Its day surgery, I will have drain tubes installed for a few days... the norm I take it.

It took me 2 months to get a 10 minute consultation and it will be 6-9 months on a waiting list, but it will be well worth it.

He is located in the Scotia Center professional building in calgary:

#218, 4411 - 16 Ave. NW
(ph) (403)234-8008

I will try and post updates and b/a pics in the near future.

*cheers*

To get a health card, you need to live in province for several months.  Quebec requires 9, Ontario requires 3.

Hey thanks for sharing!

How old are you?  How long did it take you to call?  Was it embarassing going in for the consult?

One other question, did you have to pay for the consult?

That sounds great, finally there is a recomendation for a doctor in Calgary. The news about the cost is very incouraging too. It seems he is really a busy doctor. Thanks for your post and whenever you've news, just write us man.  ;D

Well that sucks for me, I have my surgery booked for October with Dr. Perron and I'm paying $3,000.  I was told that only the consultations were covered by AHC.

Yes.. Dr Perron chooses not to bill the surgery back to Alberta Health. Why I dont know.. make more money.. too big a hassle.. I dunno.

But yeah as far as Mr Haugrud goes.. he is a breast reconstruction and hand trauma specialist. So for me this qualifies him. He does all sorts of things like breast cancer surgery removal/rebuilding. When i was their for my consult, he said he was late because he had to work on a guy who had got his hand stuck in a grinder... not good.

Consultation was free.. all I Did was give my health number.. It would be really cool to hear from someone who has had surgery from Dr. Haugrud.. just for curiosity's sake..

He will be doing gland removal, with lipo I assume.

Make sure you ask Dr. Haugrud specifically if he will be performing Liposuction as well as excision. See, Lipo is considered cosmetic surgery by most insurance companies/plans, and for the most part, is not covered.

From what I have read on this Site, the majority of 'excision' only surgeries are not satisfactory. You really need to have both excision and lipo for satisfactory surgery results.

I wouldn't like to go into a surgery 'assuming' that something will be done and to find out later that it was in fact, not done. Find out for sure Dude.... ;)
