First time poster here. Finally got the courage to post. :)

Is it possible to have gynecomastia since birth? Ever since I started grade school I've had large breasts.  Even in my baby photos it looks like I had it (it could have been baby fat) I didn't really see a change after puberty. Not sure if this is anomaly.

Also, should this affect my decision for getting surgery?

Thank you to all the doctors spending valuable time to answer our questions! :)

Gynecomastia can appear in newborn males as a result of circulating maternal estrogens, which can cross over the placenta.  This normally resolves in a few months.  I suspect there are individuals who have persistence of the condition through childhood and puberty.  It would not change the way I would approach surgical correction, nor should it influence your decision to get surgery.

There are a large number of causes for gynecomastia some of which are not benign in nature and should be ruled out prior to any attempted correction. The potential resolution of these issues is typically dependent on the specifics of underlying etiology.Surgical treatment of the gynecomastia is not directed at the underlying cause but rather the anatomic manifestations.

Thank you doctors!

I just had a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in my area. He recommended UAL since all I have is just breast tissue that needs to be removed!

UAL will not remove glandular tissue.

Strongly agree with Dr. Pensler -- UAL will work on fat, not gland.  Most guys will require both lipo and gland excision to obtain the best results.

Why not ask to see some photos of prior patients?

I did see some pictures on his website.

I do find it odd that my case of gynecomastia is very similar to the ones posted on the doctors website, however all the pics on the website is using lipo/UAL/pull through technique, but he only suggested lipo/UAL.

Hmm... ???
