Is there any way to get insurance to pay for surgery?

Anyone here ever been able to do this? If so, how?

Yes, but it does not happen very often.

Generally speaking, Only the most expensive and comprehensive insurance plans will cover it.  Some insurance plans specifically fule out any cosmetic surgery. Others will very specifically rule out Male vreast reduction.

You need to know the precise wording of your policy to know for sure. and even then it is not a sure thing. We have had people who were initially denied only to be approved when the first ruling was denied.

Overall, insurance companies refuse to cover gynecomastia surgery -- but there are rare exceptions.

Best advice:  check with your insurance company and request to see their criteria, if any, which must be satisfied in order to qualify for gyne surgery insurance coverage.  Then check to see if you satisfy those criteria.  Remember, even if you do receive a letter from the company in which they state the surgery may be covered, it is never a guarantee that they will cover it.
