Can this really be a infection post op?

Hello!

I did my gynosurgery 15 weeks ago in Sweden. Two days ago my left breast started to swell, I sent pictures and a question to my surgeon, asking if it could be internal bleeding.

He replied that it was flat after the operation and that it should be qbsorbed by the body.

The next day it is more swollen/miscolored, and on the evening it start to hurt. Shortly after that I get a fever. I get recommended to go to the IR so I do that. My surgeon says via textmsg that I have gotten a infection in the hematoma.

At the IR they cant find any signs of infection after taking several tests, they decide to extract whatever is in my breast, and they get out around 50ml of dark blood. They where expecting som pus or similar but nothing. I still get prescribed a antibiotic named Heracillin, which I am currently taking 3 times per day.

Today is 30 hours since they extracted the blood, my breast keep swelling and I am in constant pain. I also sleep abnormally much, been asleep around 24 of the past 30 hours.

My question to you is, do you think this is an infection? Should I just wait for the Heracillin to start doing its magic, or am I fool thinking it will help at all?

I really appreciate any answers, not much experienced doctors in this area of expertice in Sweden so I have really noone else to ask.

This is highly unusual, coming so late after your surgery. The presence of increased swelling, discoloration, fever and tenderness all point towards an infection.  If it is indeed an infected hematoma, then the proper treatment is not to put a syringe into it and drain a few cc's but to operate again, remove the clotted blood, cleanse the area thoroughly and put in a drain. This will then give the antibiotics a chance to work.

Best to confer with your surgeon as to the best management of the problem.

I would agree with Dr Jacobs re the unusual timing of your history.A photo would be helpful.I would contact your surgeon.
