Has anyone had any luck with general plastic surgeons in the Columbia/Charleston area? There are no endorsed doctors within four hours of here.

There are many board certified plastic surgeons in those areas.  Check them out, check out their websites to see mention of gynecomastia surgery and before and after photos, and then interview several in order to get an idea of their interest and expertise in gynecomastia surgery.  You may also want to secure an opinion from an acknowledged gynecomastia expert, even if you have to travel for that opinion -- it may be well worth your while.
