Hi all, just a quick question. I am about 4 weeks post op. Was just wondering if there is anyway to tell the difference between induration and scar tissue.

The tissue is very firm and quite tender. I see my surgeon a week from today. I will address this with him. I am not worried about it as I know this is all a part of the process. Just a general curiosity and wondering.

Thank you doctors

It's a bit early to have significant scar build up most likely your are dealing with induration.

Hmm, that is a bit disheartening. I had assumed the swelling behind the nipple wouldn't get much worse. They portrude a bit but it is still far better than prior to surgery. Is there a time frame for expected scar tissue? I know it varies from patient to patient. Thank you Dr.

The development of scar tissue is quite variable and is beyond the control of the patient or the surgeon.  However, rest assured that things do tend to get a lot better over time -- the longer the better.  Give it six months or more before you draw any conclusions about the results of your operation.  And remain in contact with our surgeon, who is the person who knows exactly what was done and can offer appropriate comments to you.

Most likely induration which tends to linger for a good one to two months. No need to worry.
