Unilateral gynecomastia

I'm a 31 year old male residing in the United States.  I recently developed gynecomastia on the left side of my chest back in the fall.  I went to my doctor as I was concerned that it might be a tumor (I'm a 10 year Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor), and he forwarded me to a breast specialist.  The specialist told me that it was gynecomastia.  I was glad it was not cancer, but she told me the only way to fix the issue was through surgery, which is at least $3,000.  I don't have that kind of money, and my health insurance won't pay for it.  Now that summer is fast approaching, it is bothering me more as I'm getting insecure about taking off my shirt.

It is killing me.  I've been depressed and anxious about this for a while now.  What is sad is that I look at pictures of me just last summer where I was "normal" with a typical male chest contour, and now I've become this...

The asymmetry bothers me the most.  I think if I had gyno on both sides, I wouldn't be as worried right now.  Is there anything I can do?  I've severely cut back on drinking and I'm taking an OTC estrogen blocker/testosterone booster from GNC.  I'm trying to get more red meat in my diet and more vegetables.  I'll do anything to make this be GONE!  I'm praying I don't need surgery, because I can't foot the bill or take the time off from work.

Interesting. My dad had unilateral gynecomastia, as a result of a prostrate medication. I guess because it was unilateral his insurance company paid for it to be removed! His was more of just a lump in the chest. But a general surgeon in a hospital did it.

Almost no one's breasts are perfectly symmetrical, men'a or women's.  But I agree with you on one point, for some reason I seem to be bothered more that I think my breasts don't match than having breasts.  Maybe it is the perfectionist in me.  My wife thinks my breasts are pretty even, so I think once again we seem to see our flaws more than others do.  Yours probably are a bit more asymmetrical than mine, but you do NOT look lopsided.  I have seen many asymmetrical breasts that are grossly mismatched.

In a perfect world we would both have nice flat chests and look like we did in our twenties.  I have learned to live with my breasts, I am too old to worry if I don't fit someone else's idea of a perfect chest.  In the long run being happy with what you have is what is important.

My right is bigger then my left, but I don't think it is that noticeable. The link below will take you to my pictures. I think due to my larger size it takes away from noticing the difference in the size from one to the other, lol!
