does nipple pain ALWAYS mean growth?

Hello everybody im 25 years old and have a mild case of gynecomastia. My condition surfaced about 2.5 years ago in my right nipple...with growth on and off for about 2 years. It is still is painful if i press hard on it(though it hurts much more some days than others).

I have not noticed any growth in the past 6 months or so but i still feel the same pain.

My main question is....once there is growth due to gynecomastia is there constant pain even after the growth has stopped? or does that mean the nipple is still growing?? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. I have visited a couple of doctors and they have confirmed that it is indeed gynecomasita and that there is nothing i can do besides surgery.
