Isn't 'spin cycling' a more intense form of stationary cycling?

When I'm on the treadmill at the gym for an hour, it says that I have burned 700+ cals. My treadmill workout is not all that intense. Do you think that the reported 700+ cals is wrong?

i doubt that. with biking, you can establish and maintain your heart rate goal easier than any other form of exercise.

I depends what your rpm rate is. When i'm in the gym, on the "spin bike" I burn about 10 calories per minute. I kick it up 10 minutes into the work out and try to get atleast a 40 cal difference. Last time I worked out, I burned about 600 cals in 50 mins.

its very possible to burn 700 cals on a treadmill in an hour. Factors are weight (heavier people burn more cals), incline and speed. Fat burning is best achieved keeping your heart rate lower (65% of your max), as opposed to all out cardio which works the heart but doesnt burn fat so much.

yes, me too rocketrob, that is what I was wondering.

btw, as someone in the business, would you recommend a good book on learning to do workouts, more or less from scratch? Or should I get advice from the staff at the gym?
