As a parent of a 12 year old boy who truly suffered with gynecomastia (more pronounced on one side than the other, which made it MORE noticeable), I needed to take the time to thank Dr. Jacobs for performing the surgery that kept him the happy, outgoing, athletic child he was destined to be.  My son was always tops in school as well as sports.  Then I started to notice a dramatic change in his appearance on one side of his chest.  He started developing what looked like a breast (only on the one side). It was SO noticeable.  I brought my son to his pediatrician who suggested a endocrinologist.  After testing, they realized it was not an endocrine problem, but they decided to treat him with a experimental drug given to women that have breast cancer.  I was apprehensive, but my son was becoming quite self conscious and was beginning to cease swimming of which he was always tops in his  field.  After a unsuccessful year of this, I contacted Dr. Jacobs after thoroughly searching for a specialist in this field and his name came up constantly in every search I did.  Dr. Jacobs agreed to see us, even though my son was only 11 years old at the time, for a consultation.  Dr. Jacobs not only was concerned with my son's physical condition, but with his mental state as well.  His bedside manner is unsurpassed when it came to this condition.  Realizing that the long term effects of living with this condition for a young boy, and after determining the health and fitness of my son, and after seeing how much this boy was suffering internally, he agreed to do his surgery.  What amazes me is that insurance does not cover this procedure, because they consider it cosmetic.  Yet they paid for the prescription drugs for a year and all the testing to determine the cause of the problem.  I'm sure they would have paid for the years of psychological therapy he would be foregoing had it not been for the surgery Dr. Jacobs performed.  Needless to say, it was money WELL SPENT.  The surgery went beautifully.  My son recovered fully, and Dr. Jacobs is an absoulute professional in every way possible.  My son is not even remotely self conscious, there are NO apparent  scars to suggest a surgery, and his mental well being is 100 percent intact.  If you have a teenager that has this condition, I cannot strongly suggest enough to have this taken care of.  Your son will recover quickly from the surgery, but may not ever recover from the long term emotional effects that having this condition may cause.  Dr. Jacobs made us feel VERY comfortable, confident, and secure in his knowledge in this field.  He is well known and highly respected as an expert in gynecomastia and with good cause.  He addressed all the issues, physical, mental, and most importantly, emotional.  I thank Dr. Jacobs for performing this surgery on my son, and giving him his youth back.  I think if I had waited even 6 more months to a year, the emotional damage may have never been reversed.  If you have a son who is hesitating to take off a shirt, or who is not playing a sport, or who is starting to back off of things he used to do before this condition became apparent, RUN, do not walk or wait another minute to get a professional consultation.  A child should not suffer one moment of their childhood on a condition that is so easily repaired.
