foam?

i am about 2 days post op and i have to wear this crappy foam.  I took a shower and put it back (i hopefully put it back right) and it doesn't feel as tight as it was and i am itchy. 

Whats the point of this foam...is it really cruicial? or is it just there to soak up any blood

It puts additional pressure on specific areas that the PS is concerned with.  It's usually for a short period of time like a week or two.
