One concern I have though is, if and after he gets the surgery, when he goes back to school the kids who teased him before will want to tease him again. Seeing that he no longer has gyne, they will see that they were right, and he was indeed not 'normal'. I can see them continuing to tease him, this time for having to have his breasts removed.

IMO, I don't think there is anything to be concerned about. Kids get teased because there is something out of the 'norm' about them. For the majority, there will be nothing to tease about. I'm sure there will be the occasional kid who says, "where did your boobies go?" However, I'm sure that Tre will be able to shake the comment off as the 'source' of the embarrassment will be long-gone!

It's just not the same (pre/post-op teasing) dude. Trust me on that! In fact, taking from personal experience, I'm sure Tre will be smiling, inside and out, if someone does in fact, tease him post-op...  ;)

The 'embarrassment' will be long gone...

Chodel trust me the age factor has definatly played on my heart and mind.  Putting my son through this at such an early age but after doing some research and really after recieving so much support on here, I know in the long run it is whats best for him.  If i wait on the surgery the only thing that will happen is that he will have gyne a little bit longer.  More jokes, more remarks, more emotional damage.

Your probably right. It was just a thought I had that I wanted to share. From what I have heard, post-op is not always the perfect picture we have painted in our minds.

It's not like they call him names walking down the hall, they aren't old enough to be that cruel yet.  That's what I'm trying to avoid, kids old enough to be that cruel.  He is a well liked kid with alot if friends, but as you know at that age their friends one minute and the next their calling you names.  I guess what I'm getting to is that honestly I haden't given it any thought.

Since he is a likeable guy with lots of friends, it probably won't be a problem. I was more concerned if there was an actual bully/group of bullies that teased him regularly.

I figured that they would just think he had slimmed down and that it wouldn't be an issue.

Most people believe that's all we have to do so there's a good chance they'll think that.

Yeah I think it will work out well.  This is also his last year at this school and next year he will move to another school for 5th grade. New school, new faces.  We will definatly have it done before then, with a new school it will definatly be in the past for him.

I wish Tre the best of luck with surgery and his 'new' gyne-free life...  ;)

English is not my mother language and hope you can understand my words.

I agree with you. You should take your son to have a plastic surgery. I am 20 years old now and suffered from gynecomastia for 8 years. I got a surgery at last year. I would say it is better for me to do surgery at the initial of this appereance. If you really want to help your son, you should take it complusory. One day your son will know that what you have done is right.

Hello to all!  Well our Friday appt. went well!  It turns out that Dr. Mary Brandt will be performing Tre's ps.  I feel really good about it all.  She is actually putting together a study to prove to insurance companies the emotional effects of gyne in children and studies gyne and the damages that it can cause.  Our date is set for Aug. the 20th.  Tre is a little upset because he will be missing his last basketball game but it's either that or miss school and that is definatly more important.  She did schedule us to do a m.r.i. and c.t. for Aug. 3rd.  She said that she wants to "turn over every possible leaf" to see what is causing Tre's hormone levels to be so high.  I was also told that this will be a day surgery and that without any complications he will not be required to stay in the hospital overnight.  She said it should take about an hour and a half and that recovery time will depend on him as an individual.  Her asst. said that there will be no lypo. only tissue removal.  Is this normal and will we see a difference?  She told me to talk to the Dr. about this at our next appt.  We did buy an under armour on Sat.  We were at basketball tryouts and Tre moved up to a new division with older kids and as he did the drills he continued to pull on his shirt, he was sweating and it stuck to him.  This was the first time that I had seen him publically get annoyed with his gyne.  I could tell he was frustrated, all I could do was walk outside and cry.  My poor baby!  He is so sweet and loving and I hurt so bad for him!  I will keep you all posted.
