Try not to get your hopes up too much just yet. I am 21 with very bad gyne, which is complicated by loose skin after weight loss.

I have twice been refered (booked appointments and everything) to a plastic surgeon and twice had my appointments canceled, the second time I actually arrived at the hospital and was told be the receptionist the consultant had refused to treat me because 'it wasn't a plastic surgery issue'... f*ck knows how he would know, since he has never actually met me!

I'm now on my third try to see an NHS surgeon, this time I have a letter from Levick recommending I be treated on the NHS... so fingers crossed!

Also, if you have been  sent to the breast clinc, expect to see all women in the waiting rooms, and they might not know how best to treat you.

At 17 you should definately be having all your hormones checked as well.

Levick also recommended I pushed the NHS a bit ... but as I already saved up 4grand for the op I said I simply cannot waste any more time. Only have 2 more years at Uni I want to make the most of it by getting this done NOW. So ive got my op with Levick this Friday.

I have to say it was the exact opposite for me. I have never rated my local 'super' hospital at all but for gyno.............. its a completly different story, the surgeon is top class and so is the treatment, there has been 2 of us on this forum who have had the same treatment at the same hospital by the same surgeon within 2 weeks and as far as i know neither of us have any complaints!

Where abouts are you Ross? and which hospital?

So i had my appointment today i think it went okay to be fair.

So i woke up today about 6.30 and thought i had another half an hour as my alarm was for 7 so i thought i might as well lay in my bed for another half hour. But that was not the case, i then hear my dad calling me from the stairs i look at the time and its half 8 (appointments at 9) i get ready the fastest ive proabably ever got dressed, and was out the house at 8.40. The bus took the piss coming i waited till 8.55 and it finally arrived, while i was on the bus i took a quick look at the letter i got and read through what it said to bring and it said medications and original packaging ( im astmatic) so im there sh1tting myself thinking hes gunna make me go back home, lol. But i carried on, and got to the hospital at 9.07.

I walk in through the revolving doors and show the receptionist my letter she says while pointing 'breast units that way' so i walk towards the door. I arrive at the reception and no ones there and in the waiting room behind me its all women. A couple of min of me standing up by the reception counter a middle age woman comes out a door with a cup of coffee in her hand, i then realised that this must have been the receptionist. So she gave me an inviting smile and i handed over the letters out of the envelope. She looks over the papers and tells me to have a seat.

About 5 mins later a nurse calls my name alog with another womans name and i let her go infront of me as we trail the nurse. A man is standing in the doorway and upon seeing him he says my name (ive never seen him before) 'hello....' so he says his name (Hamish Brown) and leads the way in to his room.

( i have realised im kinda dragging this out so ill shorten it a bit..sorry for the length above :( )

He asks me some questions then tells me to remove my top and i comply. Tells me to lay down on the bed, and feels around, then feels my testicles (no abnorms :D) then he says i need to get a x-ray. So i go out and in to waiting room  woman calls me for x ray i go in do x ray on each breast then go back to waiting room. about 25 mins later the consultant calls me back in to his room and discusses the x ray  and he says i need to get lippo suction to remove all of the other part of the x ray that wasnt muscle ( i dont know what he means by this i dont know if theyre going to do excision yet) so he says i need to send you to a specialist PS and he would write to you soon, but he tells me before i go to go to have a blood test to check the hormone levels. He also said it may take more then one go on the lippo to get better results.

Also a nurse took my height weight and BMI...it was 26 this was before the x ray and the consultant said the PS only operates if your BMI is 25 so i better stop eating those chips, lol. And after i leave his room i go to have a blood test which i had to wait about 45 mins for. And then i went home.

Overall the consultant that i had was calm and very helpful he explained to me why this usually happens, and it felt that he knew what he was talking about because he mentioned while going for blood tests he said we usually get the odd one a year that has a hormone problem. So yeah i think it went well and i hope my test come back good so he can write to me soon. So far im pleased with the help that ive recieved :D

Sorry this is a bit long but i hope it helps any of you

I had a very good experience on the NHS. My surgeon was a breast surgeon, but in no ways a plastic surgeon. I was very please with my results, however i wasn't offered liposuction, and i know it can be necessary in more sever cases. But i have heard of the NHS offering both excision and lipo. Keep us posted!
