All EU countires have a treaty which is essence means that a quick trip to the post office for the right form and any emergency care you need in the EU will be covered (unfortunatly this does not cover elective surgery).

In short if you needed lots of emergency care you may have to be taken to another hospital but it would be paid for and you would be brought back to the UK at no cost to yourself.

This was one of the main reasons I chose Spain, although, I believe the same is true even of Poland.

I hasten to add this information came to me origionally from another post on this forum
