I would suppose that depends on the anesthetic. I signed a form saying I would have someone get me. I was not allowed to drive myself or take public transportation. A "responsible" person had to be able to handle it in the event of a complication.
Surgery Date: April 9, 2008.
Surgeon: Dr. J C Fielding. (Toronto)
Result: Life is getting better with every day.

I'm pretty sure a resonsible person who can give you a life home is a requisite of being put under.  that is, I don't think the rules allow that they can put you under, operate, and then just let you go by yourself.

For me, next morning after surgery, I couldnt really walk, felt dizzy, and had to be wheeled to a car and driven home.

I could walk in the morning, but couldnt after taking the painkillers, so whether it was the effects of the LA, or th super strong pain killers, I am not sure

I dont see why not. My rde wasn't screened or anything. Your drother just needs to know to take you to an emergency room in the (unlikely) event that there is a complication. It's just about having someone look out for you for the first day.

I can't speak for Dr. Jacobs, but I do know that my surgeon told me that somebody MUST drive me home from the office and must be with me during the first 24 hours post-op.  It all depends on the doctor's policies.

To echo the other poster, they didn't ask my ride home for ID or to sign anything.  Also, he took me home, saw that I got into my bed ok, then left.  I didn't want someone fussing over me.

My point is that they just can't let you go home alone but on the same token, they're not going to do a background check on your ride and make him sign a sworn statement.  I think as long as your brother has a license (if he looks very young) and doesn't look like a drug dealer off the streets, you'll be fine.  You could always prepare a story that your mom is going to take care of you but she doesn't drive or something if you're worried, but again, it probably won't come up.

  • You t*t, what's he gonna do nibble your bum?
First of all if you are having surgrery with Jacobs, call his office.  His staff will answer this in short order, very helpful support team.

I used Jacobs for my surgery.

He does require an escort form be filled out. It didn't ask for age.

As for walking home and getting on subway, you will be able to walk out of his office.  I don't see why you could not walk home and use public transportation.  As long as the walking distances are reasonable.  Few blocks to the subway, and a few blocks home will be OK.

My suggestion, if you are using Jacobs you are spending at least 6K, what is another $40 for a cab?
