i just received my blood test results, it states that my prolactin level is 27.9 and that the normal level for a man is 20, now is this sufficient to cause gynecomastia? my estrodiol and progesterone levels are normal.

The problem is that an elevated level of Prolactin usually results in a decrease in Testosterone. This means that even if the Estrogen level is normal, its relationship to Testosterone is higher. It should be remembered that the various hormones do not work alone but in relationship to each other.

I think you may be in for further lab work and possibly a referral to an Endocrinologist.

Good Luck!

This WAS an endocrinologist, she seems to shrug this off as a "mild elevation, most likely due to stress or over stimulation of the breast area by touching". I have had elevated prolactin for months now...ive been going to endos for months and i am losing hope in them.

high prolactin CAN lead to gyno in certain circumstances:

1) your IGF-1 levels are high
2) your estrogen levels are high
3) your test levels are low giving u a higher estrogen/test ratio

your endo shouldn't just shrug off high prolactin... there may be some underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

might try to find a endo specialist in gyne or prolactin.  ??? surprised if they keep seeing high levels they are shrugging it off. good luck and keep us posted.

Since my last comments, I did a bit of looking and found one source that said there would be problems if the prolactin level was two to three times normal. Yours was not nearly that high. I think it may be time to stop trying to second guess the Endocrinologist.
