asked my doc about drains and he said nope. He felt my titties himself and said everything was a-ok and the swelling would go down. They look smaller every day.. keep shrinkin boys!

If u feel impatient about the results, take one of the pain pills u got prescribed and crush it up, then roll up a dollar and suck the powder up through your nose, you'll feel better. =)

u guys rock!

You know, there's one aspect of swelling that I haven't seen discussed here; is the post-op hard tissue issue an element of just lipoplasty, lipoplasty plus gland excision, just gland excision, or all of the above?

My prodedure was just lipoplasty done on Jan 28 and the hard tissue is just starting to show up.  I was worried that I had gland in addition to the fatty deposit, but I guess the proof of that particular pudding is that I was flat as a board after the surgery.  The hard tissue doesn't "hurt" but I'm conscious of it.  There's more on my left side than my right and on both sides it's way out to the outside almost in my armpits.  Had I not been forewarned by all of you guys I'd be alarmed, but thanx to you I expected it and can deal with it.  I still look better than I did pre-op.  I go back to my PS next Tuesday and I expect he'll tell me to start massaging.

But what about you guys with gland that had to be excised?  Where's your hard tissue?  Under the nipple where the PS went in or out to the sides?

An interesting side-bar; I also had lipoplasty done at the same time on my abdomen, hip rolls, and that annoying pad of fat over the pubic area that develops in men after about age 45 - and I have some hard tissue in every place in varying degrees.  Now, lipoplasty is really nothing but a controlled injury anyway so it's not too far out of the realm of the imagination that there'd be some body reaction to it.

Any other thoughts?

Oh, I'm not complaining.  I'm just looking for input on determining why and where hard tissue occurs.

I actually had the same question.  I know that I did have some gland, but my PS said that ultrasonic lipo would break some of it up, so I decided to get just the lipo since it was significantly cheaper than excision.  I am about six weeks post-op, and I am really disappointed.  Under my nipples I have very defined hard tissue.  So far I am very unsatisfied with the results.  I at first thought it was the hard tissue that everyone is talking about, but now I got to thinking - since the lipo removed a lot of fat, the gland would probably be a lot easier to feel and be more defined.  I am almost certain that it is gland because it is ONLY under the nipples, but nowhere else where.  If anyone has had any similar experience, I would greatly appreciate it, even if it's not something I want to hear.  I'm driving myself insane wondering whether it is gland or hard scar tissue, and I don't have an appointment with my PS for a few weeks.

Could be, but let me ask you a question.  How did you look in the first week after your operation?  Were you flat-chested (our collective ultimate goal) or did the nipple area stick out (presumably propped up by gland tissue)?  If you were flat-chested after your operation, I'd venture to say that it's just the hard tissue we're all experiencing.  Remember that I said I have some hard tissue in all of the other areas where I had liposuction, so I'm thinking that it's a temporary after effect of having that canulla poking around inside us.  But I'm no doctor, much less an experienced plastic surgeon.

So let's ask one.  Dr. Bermant, would you care to weigh in on the hard tissue topic?

I was very swollen the week after the surgery, and very sore too, so I didn't really feel around all that much because of the pain.  I just seems to me now that the gland is actually bigger than before the surgery, which makes me believe it is just hard tissue,  although as I mentioned, I'm having doubts because of the fat removal possibly causing it to be more easily felt.  Even now when I take my compression vest off, my chest is pretty flat, although you can barely make out that there is some hard stuff under the skin (which I could deal with because it is very subtle, and no one would notice it except me).  What bothers me is that after leaving the compression vest off for more than ten minutes or so makes the hard tissue or gland or whatever it is pretty noticeable, like the whole nipple/chest area expands (which i presume might have something to do with the swelling going completely down and the skin not contracting all the way yet).  The reason I'm unsatisfied is that because before the surgery, I was able to pass off my relatively mild "boobs" as well-developed pecs with the right combinations of shirts.  Now, you can actually see the hard stuff pretty well through the shirts.  Sorry for being so long-winded, I just need to vent.

Hi guys,
first post here. I had the surgery approx Nov 12th 04. I went through the same thing of it looking better and now the scar tissue is hard and causing the nipple area to swell. My doctor says it will go and says it's fine but I thouight at this stage I should be healed. The nipple are is till sore which is good I guess as it's still healing. I've been massaging the area and recently taking vitamin e. Externally theres hardly any scarring at all. I'm freaking out. I just don't know if everything is as it should be.
help !!!!

Ok so I've waited as advised. I've been back to see the doctor and he sais everything is healing as it should be. After reading all these posts though I'm really concerned that the scar tissue will actually soften and ruduce as my doctor says. Mine was the same deal as most, flat after the surgery but the scar tissue is causing the nipple area to swell. not dramatically but enough for me to be uncomfortable and they still hurt when touched. Any ideas guys ?
Thankyou

on my 6th week mark, i will be returning to my work. can i use my underwear compression shirt to give it a good compression? will it affect the results? in what way? im worried cause i read somewhere in the net that giving a lipo'ed body part a tight compression is not good. please someone shed light on this. TIA

I'm a little late here buck but thought I'd chime in. I had lipo only because my PS thought at the time that's all I needed. Well right after surgery, my chest was flat as a board. Then after about 3 months, the swelling was all the way gone and hard lumps started to appear. After one year, it still wasn't gone and I could feel the glandular tissue along with some scar tissue. So basically it wasn't enough and I had the same problem... the lipo when it was all said and done, just accentuated the glandular tissue that was there. I had my 2nd procedure to remove the gland this time with excision last week. I am recovering now and hope this is the last time I have to deal with this.

Hi everybody,
Had mine early Nov 04. Everything has calmed down but the nipple area still has some hard tissue causing the nipple to still be a little puffy and sore. It's not really bad or anything but it looked better straight after the surgery. My doctor says this is normal and can take up to a year for the scarring to soften and the true shape to form. My doctor is a very reputable plastic surgeon in Sydney and belongs to all the relevant bodies recomended for using doctors in Sydney. Is this information correct? Is there a doctor here that can confirm this? And is there anything I should be doing to help the process. I've been massaging the area just with vitamin e cream, taking vitamin e tablets and using spa jets to massage the area. I also exercise (weights, running and boxing nearly every day) alot. Any help would be much appreciated. I guess I'm just after reassurance that the advice I'm getting is correct.
Thanks heaps for reading.
