Anyone from US had surgery in Canada?

I've read a few posts that Canadian doctors are charging a bit less $$ than US doctors.  I've also heard some really good things about them (Lista / Fielding).

I'm just wondering if anyone from the US has had surgery or had a consultation with one of these doctors and if they charge the same or more for US patients? 
I'm planning on calling around soon as I've sick of wearing thick shirts and not going to the beach, and am ready for surgery.  I  did see a local surgeon a few weeks ago and he was going to charge $3500 but only wanted to do one side, and I don't think that's his specialty, so I'm going to look elsewhere.
..just wondering how far I can travel and not come out to bad on the total price (assuming traveling for consultation, surgery, follow up visit, etc).
