tamoxifen is a SERM, a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator... had you any true understanding of how hormones work you'd have stated that as part of your argument when i tried to bait you with my last reply. the fact is tamoxifen does raise estrogen levels, yet does compete directly with Estrodiol for binding at the receptor site. its action is neither that of a pure agonist or antagonist as it behaves differently in different tissues, hence the classification as a SERM. in breast tissue it's a much weaker agonsit of the E2 receptor than estrodiol -- that's how it works. it competes for the receptors and then when it binds it doesn't stimulate to the same degree as Estrodiol resulting in a reduced estrogenic response. (at least in the breast gland).

tamoxifen does nothing to reduce circulating estrogen. tamoxifen does nothing to inhibit the aromatization of androgens to estrogen. i've already admitted that someone taking nolvadex could very well see an improvement in there gynecomastia, TEMPORARILY. since tamoxifen does nothing to treat the underlying condition, upon cessation of this medication the gland would return to the original size.  what you are failing to see is that all these studies you've pulled up mention nothing about what happened after the study -- when the medication was stopped...

these academic studies fail to address this. you have to understand the scope in which these results are useful. find me one study that shows a well established case of glandular gynecomastia that is cleared up by a run of tamoxifen and fails to return upon cessation of treatment... until then, i firmly stand by the statement that surgery is the only true 'cure'.
