WOW
ah man!

I had no idea there were forums like this. ive suffered alone for far too long!
no swimming, wouldnt take my top off in front of my own gf for months and months (and still cover up wherever possible)
dont wear thin t-shirts, hugely embarrassed changing at school...this gynecomastia stuff sucks.

however, I eventually managed to get the courage to go to the docs and was referred to a specialist.
Had general tests and an ultrasound to check it wasnt cancer (which is what i was shitting myself that it might be).
He told me it was gynecomastia and explained what could be done. I went off to think about it and a few months later I
told him I wanted to go through with the operation. Im now on the waiting list and should be having it done before the end of september.

Ive read a couple of threads all about how the NHS in the UK is crap for it, but ive had absolutely no trouble getting appointments and being put on the list.

I have some questions for people who've had the op though:

- How long were you in hospital for?
- Can you go back to work soon after?
- Those of you who exercise regularly, can you go back to the gym soon after the op?
- Is it painful for a long time afterwards?
- Was it worth it!??

Welcome to the boards dude...  ;)

Congrats on taking action against the curse!!!

To answer your questions...

For many, it's day surgery. You are in and out on the same day. I arrived at the hospital at 8AM and was home by 3PM. The surgery itself took an hour and a half. For others, they stay overnight at the hospital and leave the next day... I'm not sure it they let you stay over at a clinic thought...

If you have a desk job, then 3 days R&R should suffice. If you have a physical job that involves lifting, then you should consider taking 2-3 weeks off for the initial healing...

The general consensus on this site regarding exercise is to wait 3 weeks minimum before returning to any exercise routine... Even then, start out slowly and use light weights...  ;)

For most there is no real pain, just a slight discomfort.

IF you achieve good results... then yes, it is worth it...

Waiting for you on the 'Other Side' my man!  ;)
