i plan on driving to and from the surjury is this possible ?

Hospital staff will only release you if you have a family member or a friend pick you up. They will not let you drive yourself home.

YOU DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE!  Do not risk getting into a accident.

if i stay overnight is it safe to assume i could drive the day after?

since that hotel nearby (Sheridan?) has a discount for those with surjury right ?

Yes, the Four Points Sheraton is minutes away from the hospital and they have a reduced 'Compassionate' room rate for St. Josephs patients. If you decide to stay at the Four Points, make sure you ask for the reduced rate when you check in at the front desk. Tell them you will be having surgery at St. Josephs.

The hotel thing rate is for out of towners who come here for surgery.

The Four Points Sheraton 'Compassionate' rate is not just for 'out of towners'. The 'reduced' room rate is for all St. Joes patients.

They don't get to stay in a hotel after surgery unless they have a friend to drive them or take them there.

I am sure that hospital staff would alow you to take a cab back to the hotel for the night. They may want to see proof that you are staying there tho.

  • Thank you Fielding
My apologies, the compassion rate is for everyone.  What I meant was, most of the people who use this will probably be out of towners.

To confirm if you can go to a hotel room after surgery upon proof, call Fielding's office:  416-766-8890.

Why do most of you guys stay at a hotel... im staying at the hospital and it is free of cost.  So i would advise that, just tell him that no one can pic u up and you can stay at the hospital.

Yes they would but seriously it is not worth it. I would strongly advise you tell someone close about it. The emotional support they give you is great. Plus you get to talk to someone while you're all hoped up on pain killers ;D

Leslie will give you a list of surgery Doo's and Don'ts and you will have to pay for your surgery at that time. If I recall correctly, you have to sign a surgery waiver also. Don't quote me on that tho, as my memory is crap these days.   :-/

As Bambu said you will have to sign the surgery waiver, fill out some hospital forms and lastly you will have to take a blood test at the clinic on the bottom floor.

I didn't have to take a blood test before the surgery. I'm guessing it depends on your med history on whether they require it or not because this isn't the type of thing they'd forget to do.
