I got offers for that with $6000 and that can not be right.

What did you pay?

$6000 is probably in the ball park.  It's slightly higher in my practice in Boston for the total cost, and although I do more than anyone in this area, my fees are not the highest in the area.  Prices in NYC may be higher still.  If you read prices like $2500 or $3000, that probably does not include fees for anesthesia, hospital and so on.

Thank you Dr. Silverman.

I think I will wait till I am in Europe again. They only charge $2400 for the whole surgery with two days hospital stays.

What is the reason for staying in the hospital for two days?  I'd guess that all of the surgeons on this forum send the patient home the same day, as I do. Just curious...

Europeans like to make sure, everything is alright before they send you home.
That's why they keep you 1-2 days there.

Interesting.  A huge waste of resources, but interesting nonetheless.

Why is it a huge waste of resources? For $2400??

It only costs you $2400, but staying in a hospital overnight uses resources, and in the absence of a medical reason, I feel that's an unnecessary expenditure.  It's different if you have a long and arduous procedure, or one where risk of complications would justify overnight monitoring.  Or if you require fluids or pain control, etc.  That's not the case with gynecomastia except in rare circumstances.

Just my own obsession with economical and intelligent use of resources.  I've been doing surgical missions to Ecuador for 20 years, and there are few things that bug me as much as the waste of resources that I see in providing health care, at least in the US.

Sorry, but for me charging $6000 is unnecessary if it is JUST a simple procedure.

Gynecomastia surgery is not simple surgery at all -- witness all the many guys on this forum who have had less than satisfactory results with their surgery.

While the fee for surgery may vary around the country and among various doctors, please bear one thing in mind:  you get what you pay for.

Thank you Dr. Jacobs. I think I get a lot for the $2400 in Europe.
