The doctors on this board recommend waiting 2 years. If it's still there after 2 years then it's very unlikely it will go away on its own.

It would probably be a good thing for you to have it checked by your doc and maybe get a referral for an endocrinologist. Since you're still in the early stage of gynecomastia, they might be able to help you.

Good luck!

Given how fit you already are, I doubt there is anything diet or exercise related that could help.
The doc you went to didn't mention anything about seeing an endocrinologist?

I am sorry, I don't know how much of it could possibly go away in your case.

Believe it or not, ther is no way to ungrow tissue that is normal and healthy. What we have is a major embarrassment, but it is not unhealthy nor abnormal.

There are no pills, potions, nor exercise gimmicks that will help you.

Only a skilled specialist among surgeons can do what you want.

Paw Paw and your doctor are right.  The only way to get rid of it will be with surgery.  You have an assymetric case where on side is much different that the other.  This is either a blessing or a problem depending on how you look at it!  With surgery, you would only need to have one side operated on.  But in the meantime, it makes hiding the condition much more difficult...especially when the shirt is off.  What every you decide to do though, hang tough.  We are all here to support each other, and every single person here knows exactly what you are going through. Many doctors post on this site as well, so you will likely get an opinion from one of them as well.  That's one of the things I love about this site!

Ultimately, the decision must be your own.  Waiting to see what happens will not hurt anything at all, just prolong the length of time you have to live with gyne.  Now I don't want to be all doom and gloom, and I certainly don't want to put your spirits down at all.  If you are uncertain, the best advice I can give is to wait it out.  But hey, you never know, maybe something awesome will happen and things will change for the better!  Stranger things have happened right?!  ;D  At any rate, be absolutely sure about what you want before you do anything.  Do this and you will have no regrets.

Sorry to bring a dose of reality to you.  Puberty rarely extends to age 18.

The unilateral gyne that you have is usually not related to an endocrine problem.

It will most likely not disappear spontaneously -- but you are free to wait and hope.

Ultimately, you will require surgery to remove it and achieve a symmetrical chest.  when considering surgery, the surgeon should look at your "better" side too, which may also have gyne but to a lesser extent.  If so, the usually both sides are done to achieve an optimal result.

Good luck whichever way you go.

I agree with Dr. Jacobs.  Although unilateral or one-sided gynecomastia is not common, it certainly exists.  It can be challenging to achieve symmetry in a case like yours, and as Dr. Jacobs said, often the flatter side needs some tissue removal as well.

I doubt it's going to change any over time. If it is that bothersome to you, consider having the surgery now.

I honestly do not understand the Dr.'s advice!
You clearly have unilateral gyne. Sorry Doctors, I do not see why he can not just have the affected side done try to make it look like the other side. it does not have to be exact but at least it will get rid of his gyne:-)
and look much better. may I ask why is it so difficult to make one side SIMILAR to the other?
I understand both sides cost more than one but that is not at all why I recommend one side.
Thanks & Regards.

Neil, in many unilateral cases, both sides could be affected, however one side may be typically larger. Operating on both is usually recommended in order to prevent the 'better' side from developing or causing problems later on. Furthermore it is sometimes difficult to 'match' the two as they have been growing 'differently' for quite some time. It's simply a lot easier to obtain more even results if you're operating on both.

Think of it like you're trying to make two sculptures: it's a lot easier to start with two big mounds of clay and work on each to get them to be similar, than just work with one and try to get it to match something preexisting.

Thank you herro for the great explanation!
one correction though - in unilateral gyne the less affected side is just not changing much. it is not true generally it may develop into something else as more commonly it stays the same for 20 years/more..
In other words, the change is just not significant enough to require surgery as the less affected side will just never be as bad or close in size to the affected side. Sincerely
PS. yes both sides gyne but if one side minor case like one fifth of other side then who cares. I just really don't like the idea of an operation on the beautiful side. don't do that just make the ugly side look like the nice one

If you look at the pics above - unilateral gyne: I understand the doctor wants to remove a LOT from both to make both flat. I say NO. remove very little from the right side to correct puffy nipple to make it similar to the left side.
Doctor's recommendation - big surgery remove a lot from both sides
My advice - small surgery - remove a little from one side.
I am not a doctor or an expert like them in the field hence will gladly hear their feedback. TX
