Your comments are very touching and all too true.  I have heard many such comments from my patients.

Congratulations on getting the surgery this summer -- I am sure your parents are on your side and are understanding of the problems you have encountered.

As for whether anyone will notice?  I doubt it very much.  And if anything, if someone should notice, it will only be a momentary pause -- and then they will accept the new you.
