Has anyone gotten scar tissue and never have it go away. I am 5 weeks post op with a fair amount of "scar tissue" though it could also be gland. Just wondering if this will definitely go away with time or if it might stay forever unless I get it surgically removed

Scar tissue frequently forms under the areola -- most often between 4 and 10 weeks after surgery.  If it is not huge, it can be treated with a cortisone injection, such as Kenalog.  Very rarely is secondary surgery required, because it will frequently heal with scar tissue as well.

Dr. Jacobs,

Thank you for the response. Is it possible for scar tissue to form within the first week or two or would that more likely be gland.

Within the first week or two after surgery, it is usually swelling of remaining tissues or perhaps a collection of blood or fluid.  Neither gland nor scar tissue grows that fast.
