Im really confused because everywhere on this forum people said that its really hard to get the surgery covered and what not.

my family doctor sent me to this specialist and he told me to get the blood work and ultra sound done, got that last week, and just came back from the appointment for today and he says blood is good and no problems and that the ultra sound does show some tissues of gynecomastia, so he told me that now i should wait for my family doctor to call me and he will set up an appointment with the surgeon and what not, so thats good.

but i asked him about the surgery being covered and he's like yes it should be, so how did i get it covered? I didn't tell them i had any pain or any excuse to get the surgery covered, I'm in canada btw so why is surgery not covered for others?

Go ahead and ask for your procedure to be pre-qualified with your insurance company. The doctors assistants will send forms to the insurance company. When you get a letter back from your insurance company you will then know for sure if your covered.

should i do this all now? wouldn't the family doctor take care of that? or tell us the procedure?

The plastic surgeon will know if it is covered as he has to submit the forms. Press him on it. Otherwise there are independent companies where you will be able to finance. But if your doc says it's covered, then it's covered. Don't worry about the criteria re coverage. That's up to your specialist.

Not true. It's not up to the surgeon whether or not his insurance company will pay. He needs written confirmation from his insurance company stating what they are willing to pay. Even with this the insurance company can refuse to pay after the surgery has been completed.

I was referring to whether the Gov't health care plan would cover it. The surgeon would definitely know that because of the criteria for coverage.
