Complications of Surgery

I'm 29 and have never even had my tonsils out. I'm considering gyno surgery after the first of the year. My 2 major concerns are what are the chances of death during this surgery and are blood clots afterwards a high risk? Like I said I've never had any surgery in my life so safety is my major thought.

Any surgery carries risk.The risk is dependant on the procedure and sedation performed,the health of the patient and the expertise of the health care providers.As a general principle surgery for gynecomastia is a safe and effective treatment to reverse the stigmata of the underlying process.Complications when performed by a skilled professional in the appropriate setting are rare with the procedure being extremely safe.

Totally agree with Dr. Pensler.  The risk of death or or blood clots is virtually non-existent (obviously, when surgery is done by a well trained surgeon and not in the back room of a hotel by a non-licensed person).

I would echo Drs. Pensler and Jacobs.  Patients often fear the anesthesia more than the surgery, and as I explain to those who are young and healthy, as I presume you are from your description, they are safer under anesthesia than they are on the drive to and from the hospital.
