Hello out there. I'm here to share my experience. First off I'm a long time lurker, I do have an account with a few posts but don't remember the username and password but this website gave me motivation to get surgery. I've been lurking these forums for at least 6 years.
I had pubertal gynecomastia which is having it since puberty. I had nice big puffy nipples with some fat in the area as early as 11 years old (I'm 26 years old now). It made me extremely self conscious and I had to do something about it.
I literally haven't taken my shirt off for anyone since I was 12 or 13. I made random excuses up why I couldn't during sexy time with a girl but that was honestly not a huge problem to me. The bigger problem was layering up with clothes and do anything I could to hide the puffy nips. It made me very uncomfortable of the clothing situation. Always wore an undershirt, sometimes two.
About a month ago, I was surfing these forums and I said to myself, it's now or keep procrastinating to get the surgery. So I did a lot of researched and found great reviews on my choice of surgeon and gave their office a call. The surgeon was
Dr. Jeffords located in Smyrna right outside of Atlanta, GA.
I set up a consultation for a couple days after I called. When I went in their office, it was very warming and comfortable. The staff was very polite and I sat down to wait for
Dr. Jeffords to call me in.
Once he called me in, we went into his office and he was very nice. We talked for awhile and he showed me a lot of before and after pictures he done recently. He actually had the surgery himself which made me even more comfortable to have chosen him.
After about spending an hour with the Dr., it was time for me to book my appointment with him. My surgery date was scheduled in exactly 2 weeks after meeting him.
The day of the surgery I went to Windy Hill Hospital where the operation was preformed. The staff over at Windy Hill are very nice and warming as well. I filled out a little bit of paper work and then went back into a room and changed into a gown.
I chilled in the gown for about an hour and they wheeled me into another room where I was put on an IV which was water and minerals (because you can't eat or drink anything at all after 12am the night before surgery). I met with
Dr. Jeffords while on the IV and he came and drew the lines on my chest where he will be doing the surgery. I also met with the anesthesiologist and she gave me something in my IV that made me feel very good and took my nervousness right away very quick.
They then wheeled me into the operating room. I hopped out of the bed I was in and into the operating bed and then they gave me oxygen to breath in for about 5 seconds then I woke up in the recovery room. It was like a blink of an eye.
When I woke up, I already had the vest on and the nurses gave me water and crackers and I hung out there for about an hour until they wheeled me off to my ride in a wheelchair.
There was very little pain involved in the whole thing. I took the prescription pain killers for one day, and to be honest I probably never needed them. All it felt like for a couple days was a good work out on the chest.
I am now 5 days post op. I have taken my vest off to shower for the past 3 days and so far it looks amazing. It is an amazing feeling to take the vest off and stare in the mirror for a couple minutes to see a mans chest, a chest that I should have had.
Right now I have a little bit of swelling that is going down and bruising that is also starting to go away. I am suppose to wear this vest for 4-6 weeks but I believe it just depends on how fast your body heals. I have been taking multivitamins every single day to make sure I am healthy and hopefully it makes me heal faster.
This whole experience so far was a breeze. I am thankful for such an awesome doctor that did an amazing job, and I'm also thankful for these forums that gave me the motivation to go get this done.
For any of you that have gynecomastia, I highly suggest you to get the surgery!
