What to expect from kenalog injections?

Hello,

I will be having kenalog injections to reduce some scar tissue and was just wondering if any doctors can provide me with some details as what to expect? Not necessarily pertaining to results as I know they will vary, but just some details regarding the procedure itself and what to expect after?..Will the injections create additional swelling? etc. Thank you

I typically use an insulin syringe for injection which is an extremely small needle ,you may not even feel it.There is minimal swelling.I would not worry too much about it.

Usually there is minimal discomfort with a kenalog injection -- it is being injected into scar tissue, which has minimal nerves.

Once the injection is done, there are literally no restrictions for the balance of the day.  Just be patient because it takes a few days for the medication to start to work - and then it continues to work for about 6 weeks or so.

I mix a little bit of local anesthetic with my Kenalog, so there is a little bit of burning with the injection at first.  Some patients get a little swelling after the injection, but few complain of any pain afterwards.  As noted, it takes several days before anything starts to happen, and changes will continue for 4 - 6 weeks.  I check my patients back at that point to see if they need any further treatment.
