Codeine

Hi there, I'm 1 year post op now. Unfortunately I've injured my back recently (prolapsed disc). I hevd been prescribed codeine 60mg four times a day. I've been searching to see if there are any links between short term codeine use and gynecomastia. Are there?
I am so careful about what mess I take now, I'd rather have pain than risk any reoccurrence!

There is no link between gyne and codeine -- in fact I often prescribe it to my post-op patients.

I have read that using codeine can reduce testosterone levels. Would this have to be regular use, over a long period?

These are a couple of links I found. I also typed the question "does codeine lower testosterone". There are a lot of references to opiates lowering test. I can't find much detailed information on whether this refers to long term / short term use.

Chronic long-term usage of narcotics can reduce testosterone, but short term use and any alterations should not play a significant role in development of gynecomastia.
