I saw this video of a guy having surgery without being put to sleep.  Is this a common surgery.

"He heard about a less-invasive procedure that involved liposuction to get rid of the fat followed by a laser to smooth out the skin and decided to give it a try.  The procedure lasted about three hours, and ABC News' "Good Morning America" followed up with Holler for a few months after the surgery as he recovered"

I had the surgery under local, but it was the traditional method of both excision and lipo. I barely felt a thing, just some minor discomfort but no sharp pain. Asked the doc why he uses local when everyone else uses general, he said someone dared him to do it once and he has never looked back.

All the docs on here use general. They are all gyne specialists. No reason not to really. Take a nap and wake up changed forever:)

There are limits as to what surgery can be done under local anesthesia.  I have been administering local anesthesia for over 40 years and am very adept at it.  Yet I know its limits.  I would not use it except for a very small and limited gyne -- and even then the patient will experience some discomfort.

The use of local anesthesia alone will limit how much a surgeon can do and how aggressive he can be.  When other surgeons try to perform a decent sized gyne under local, the results are often a very painful experience for the patient as well as an under-correction or inadequate correction of their gyne -- which often leads to a revision operation.
