Hey guys, just found this site. I was very skeptical about posting but there seems to be a good community here.

Anyways, I won't bore you with the details but my life is basically defined and limited by my gyno. I can't ever take off my shirt, I wear really baggy clothing. I work out for a while and then get discouraged because I know my breasts will never go away. Then I get overweight again.

I went in for a consultation for surgery years back but my insurance wouldn't cover it. Now I'm in my mid 20's and its affecting my sleep. The tissue is so tender that it hurts and I can't sleep. Any chance the insurance companies will cover it now that I'm experiencing pain? I'm tired all the time.

If not, I'm seriously considering just paying for it outright. Problem is, I don't make hardly any money and I have poor credit so a loan is likely out of the cards. What do I do? What are my options? How much does the surgery cost? I need to get this taken care of so I can be more confident. I'm naturally confident but my gyno is seriously holding me back.

Thanks guys.

You could try talking to your family doctor, tell him it's hurting. Possibly insurance would cover it.

What country are you from?
In Canada I'd say it's in between $1000-$5000 depending on the severity of gynecomastia. In the US, it would be more. Just save up as much as you can, and go get another consultation.
My surgery was done on Oct 20th, 2014 by Dr. J. Craig Fielding in Toronto, Ontario.

Thanks dude. Ya, I just got a referral from my doctor to get a consultation. I really hope insurance covers it. I'm in the US and I can't afford it outright. Hopefully I get the consultation done soon and it all goes well. I am getting pretty desparate. I compete jiu jitsu and its even getting in the way of that.

The surgery is not usually covered by most insurance for the simple reason that there is not usually any medical necessity for doing the surgery. Because the procedure is fundamentally cosmetic, It is not covered.

As elective surgery goes, the cost is usually within reason.

It is not uncommon for people to try and save a bit of cash by using price as the basic criteria for selection of their surgeon. We hear from people who have done that all the time. Their horror stories are very real.  If you are going to have surgery, seek out a qualifies cosmetic surgeon and get it done right. You do not save anything if you later have to find a cosmetic surgeon to do the job over.
