I live in a cold state and many around me are coming down with the actual influenza virus and other stomach bugs. I know I have for sure been directly exposed to one ill person (girlfriend) and and possibly another (roommate having vomiting spells).

My surgery is in a week and a half. How sick would I have to be for the surgery to be cancelled? Are there any inherent risks of operating on someone who has or is recovering from a common cold/flu? What kind of financial penalty will be involved if the surgery has to be rescheduled with no prior notice?

Thanks in advance.

If your health is good at the time of surgery there is no increased risk. The incubation period for the flu after exposure is 1 to 4 days. So if it has been a while since your exposure you are probably ok.With respect to the second part of your question it varies from physician to physician. If you become sick notify your surgeon immediately.I don't penalize unintended illness.
