Pain/Lump 8 Yrs Post-Op

Doctors, I had gyne surgery done in 91, removed tissue only, then plastic surgery for bilateral nipple/fat reduction.  Now I have a off/on pain in the right nipple,  and is quite painful upon manipulation/squeezing with a 10-15mm lump (significantly larger than the left).  My doc suggested I need to have a breast ultrasound done, before I can go to a specialist for either cortisone shots or ultrasound scar tissue procedures.  Is there a concern with the pain and do I really have to get an ultrasound? Tired and stressed, any advice is appreciated. Rob

If you truly have a  10 -15cm lump that was not previously there I would recommend an excisional biopsy.

A lump 10-15 cm is rather large. The ultrasound may have been ordered to determine if it was cystic  (fluid filled) or not. If it were cystic it might be able to treated with a small drainage procedure by the radiologist who performs the ultrasound. This could be done at the same time if properly arranged. You should discuss the whole "plan" with your doc before going to get the ultrasound.

Yes. The ultrasound will be able to tell if it is solid or fluid filled.
