Just curious for when I do manage to get the surgery.  How much recovery time (on average) do people have to take before exercising again?  In particular, running and chest strength training.

Thanks.

  • Gyne free, is the way to be!
They say after 3 weeks post op,, due to the fact, your body needs to heal. When you work out, protein synthesis occurs which means the body rebuilds/ streghtens the muscles you used. Thats not good  when you have a huge wound under the skin. The wound need all the attention inorder to heal correctly.
Working out too soon can jepordize that.

I am personally going to take off 4 weeks, just to be safe. After 4 weeks, I am going to start doing heavy leg workouts and gradually move up to upperbody.

  • Your gonna cut what off?
I was told to expect to be off for 2 weeks from any physical exercise or work. I am now 12 days post op. and I think it's going to be closer to 4 weeks by the way my body feels. Still have bruising all over the lipo areas and after long periods of resting in one position it seems to stiffen up in the chest area. At this point I know that I could not use the treadmill due to the jolting effect from each step. Still worth it to reach that final goal. It is harder to stay positive and patient about the results than what I had imagined but use this site for encouragment and info. Just my two cents, I hope it helps.
