I’ve lost a lot of weight recently and still have the gyno I got in late puberty I think. I’ve never really been that embarrassed to take my top off as it looks as bad in a shirt and it’s probably quite minor compared to most people. My wife thinks I’m nuts but I know I have tissue there that isn’t muscle.  My dad had this and his chest is getting lower with old age and that’s playing on my mind. I’ve started weight training and stripping more fat so it’s probably going to look worse.  At 43 am I too old? Would you put yourself through this surgery when there’s a risk it will look worse?

My advice would be to avoid surgery if this is the case. Most of the time I wasn't afraid to go topless pre surgery either, but now a few months post op it looks worse than before and I've actually become way more self concious about it.

The risk / benefit ratio of surgery has to be very carefully considered for minor gyno. I've seen many post op pictures for minor gyno that look objectively worse than pre surgery.

You look good now and your chest does not scream "gyno" to me. You're only going to look better as you continue weight training.

Your age should not be a consideration -- I have done successful gyne surgery on men in their early 70's.

You are correct, if you lose more weight or bulk up, things will only look worse, not better.

Ultimately, though, it will be your decision.  Do not be frightened by folks who talk about potential bad results.  In fact, the vast majority of patients of all ages have very good to excellent results and to a man, they all talk about the procedure as "lifechanging."

I understand your wife's concern -- but as the old Indian adage says, "don't criticize someone until you have walked a mile in their moccasins."

If you do decide to pursue surgery, do your homework, don't rush, consult a gyne expert in your area or consider traveling for such expertise.

Good luck which ever way you decide to go.

Thanks for the replies.  I’m going to go ahead with a consultation and have a real hard think about this.  If I’m doing it then I think I will go with a UK surgeon with a good reputation as revision looks like it’s needed quite often. My wife says I can do this if I have to but she is against me travelling to Poland, etc to save money.

I agree with your wife.  Go to a local surgeon, if possible, so that you can easily see him/her for follow up care.  And realize that if you go to a good surgeon, the chances of needing a revision are slim.

100% no. Your wife seems super supportive and must have your best interests at heart, which is why you should listen to her. You look completely normal!

It was a bit cold. Most of the time I’ll look like this if I take my top off.  As long as I weight train my upper chest the shape isn’t too bad.  I think I will leave surgery for a while to see if it gets worse.  It looked a lot worse when I had more weight. My worry is it ends up like my dad’s where his chest is dropping more than everything else.
