Thank you for the encouragement,  Hammer.  Interesting you should refer to your breast as girls.

Busty, my girlfriend used to once in a while tease me about my cute little boobies, as she called them. But now that  my breasts have grown larger, she often calls them my girls.

There has been a shift in her attitude. More on that later.

I have decided I will most likely go in for a bra fitting.

SideSet, my wife is WAY bigger than me (she's heavy) and she still refers to my breasts as "the boobs of a 13 year old girl". An Xray tech recently referred to them as "little girl boobies" and we both had a good laugh about that. I think it was the huge difference in our sizes that caused part of my wife's difficulty in accepting that I feel the need to wear a bra. I think she has forgotten that even small breasts can be uncomfortable when they bounce and jiggle, when the nipples get bumped, scraped or pinched, and the fact that even small nipples get hard and poke against anything slightly clingy on them. My nipples seem to be hard most of the time. I would love to hear more about your GF's change in attitude about you having breasts, so I hope you will share more soon. Please also let us know about your experience when you get your professional fitting. I expect that I will have one done one of these days, especially if I notice my current bras feeling crowded. Good luck with everything, and thank you for your willingness to share your experiences.

Chesty, I think you captured the tone perfectly.  My girlfriend had a similar attitudes as your wife and the X-ray tech, and used to lightly and easily joke, almost dismissively, but not mean.  Like my boobs were a little issue but not serious, and almost like we had something in common, but she was superior.  It was all friendly and good fun.  An example, in the freezer section of the grocery store, she might catch my eye, look directly at my chest, and say "somebody feels the chill. That is why God made padded bras, well, one of the reasons."
Now that I am full busted, there I admitted it, she is more serious and tells me I have become "a full member of the club."  She has made a point of educating me about breasts and good breast health.

If I am right and you are at least a DD, then you are a member in better standing of the club than your GF.  She good with that?

Thank you for the reactions and support.  Everyone has said I should try a bra, so while I have the courage, I am going at this very moment to Soma to get fitted.

At Soma now.  The girl is so nice.  Will tell you all about it later, if you want.  Here is a quick pic from fitting room of a bra I am trying on.  What do you think?
Guess what size?

Wow!
Hammer and I don't always agree, but we do here.  Your bust looks great.  And great big, too :)
I had guessed a D or DD, but you might even be bigger than that.
That bra gives you some nice lift and shaping.  Impressive cleavage going on there, too, would look great with a low cut top.
Most girls start out with a training bra, but you are starting with a full-figure bra.  How does that feel?

Thank you, Hammer and Busty, for saying I look good in a bra and for saying I have a big bust.
Elizabeth, my fitter at Soma said the bra I showed you and some other bras all looked good on me, and she also told me she was very impressed I am a DDD cup;  she even brought me one G cup bra to try on.  Turns out I am a 40 DDD, but as you know, and I learned, that can vary from bra to bra.  So, in my case, I am most likely a 38 or 40, DDD, but no smaller than a DD or larger than a G.
My fitting experience could not have been better.  It was a slow day and I got personal hands-on attention for over an hour. Elizabeth was so kind, and she seemed to enjoy helping me.  I was effusive in my thanks.  She highlighted their phone number and her name on my receipt and said she expects to see me regularly and to ask for her.
I can give the details of my fitting later, if anybody wants to hear it.

I told you that it would go well! I wish that I was a 38 or a 40, it would mean that I was much smaller around, but I haven't been that size since about 9th grade! I was blessed with a body build like a brick shit house from being on the farm, and then from working construction. As a teen I used to carry 100lb bags of potatoes, 1 under each arm no problem and still open doors. Could also explain today's back problems? Even after 20 years on disability, my stomach is still solid, under the first layer of fat, lol. I guess I'm very happy about that though, my doctors have a tough time understanding how I can still be so solid, but never able to work out anymore.

My girlfriend has told me the percentage of fat we have in our breasts is different for everyone. It can be as high as 80 percent for some and as low as 20 percent for others. I have a high fat content in my breasts, so they are quite soft. She has less, so they are more dense. I think mine feel nicer, but I don't tell her that. What is everyone here's experience?

I was told that the only way to tell the difference between the fat and tissue is with the mammogram, and I've had 2 or ultrasound, and I've had one. You can't tell by touch and feel. I believe that the doctors here on the forum have also said that too, on more then a couple post.

During her teaching me about good breast health, my girlfriend said you can generally tell by feeling.  Glands and connective tissue are denser and firmer to the touch; fat is softer and more easily shaped by your bra cup.

SideSet, I echo what others have said that your breasts and that bra look terrific! I'm also jealous of the cleavage! My breasts are a lot smaller and are so wide set that the only cleavage I can ever get is by pushing them together, and then my skin wrinkles in between them and it isn't pretty! On the plus side, though, I can still go braless without pain as long as I don't care that my nipples are trying to poke through my shirt! Every cloud has a silver lining, right? Please share more details about your fitting. I'm seriously thinking about getting one, even though I think my current bras fit really well. I'm sure it couldn't hurt anything and might be a fun way to spend some time.
